Today, Socitm Advisory has received a badge of honour to show its commitment to becoming a ‘Menopause Friendly Workplace’. Ensuring colleagues feel supported at work is key to the way we do things at Socitm Advisory, which is one of the reasons we are on our journey to achieve the accreditation from Henpicked.

Over the past twelve months we have completed a host of activity to prepare our colleagues and our organisation for this journey, from the initial idea through to setting out a project plan, training our trainers and all colleagues, and consulting on and launching a Menopause Policy late last year. Our business is now set up so any new colleague joining our business is menopause trained.

Emma Tickner, Menopause Lead at Socitm Advisory says, “We know that the average age for a woman to reach menopause is 51, but that symptoms can start years before. Therefore, many of our colleagues may be working with us through this transition or supporting someone who is. That’s why we’re focusing our efforts on achieving Menopause Friendly accreditation, to ensure our colleagues and potential colleagues can formally recognise our support.”

As well as the formal policy changes to the business, informal activities are now threaded through the wellbeing activities the business already hosts, including coffee catch-ups, and also dedicated menopause communications through intranet pages and a regular quarterly e-newsletter to all colleagues.

“We’re delighted Socitm Advisory is taking steps to become a Menopause Friendly employer. Menopause is not just an issue for women. It’s something we all need to understand, a subject we should all feel comfortable discussing. The more awareness we have, the better we can support our colleagues, friends and family. That’s why we’re so proud of the team at Socitm Advisory and the many other organisations working towards and achieving the Menopause Friendly Accreditation.”

Socitm Advisory will complete the final stages of its accreditation application in the coming months and aims to be accredited later this year, at which point we could be nominated for one of Henpicked’s awards at its annual awards ceremony.
