Socitm Advisory, has proudly received the Menopause Friendly Accreditation.

As a remote organisation with colleagues dispersed across the UK, we are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive workplace, particularly around menopause – a topic that can often be sensitive or overlooked.

The driving force behind achieving this accreditation was to make menopause an open and approachable subject within the organisation. By introducing a menopause policy, we aimed to empower our colleagues to seek support when needed without fear or embarrassment. “By earning the Menopause Friendly Accreditation, we’ve demonstrated our commitment to all colleagues,” said Emma Tickner, menopause lead at Socitm Advisory. She also emphasises the value of joining the Menopause Friendly community, which provides a wealth of resources for employees navigating menopause or supporting others who are.

Emma highlights that while the average age for menopause onset is 51, symptoms can begin years earlier, affecting many employees. Socitm Advisory’s focus on earning the Menopause Friendly Accreditation underscores its dedication to ensuring colleagues feel supported through this transition.

Helen Walker, Head of HR at Socitm Advisory, points out that “research shows 10% of women leave their jobs due to menopause symptoms, with many more reducing their hours or forgoing promotions”. This insight was a key motivator for Socitm Advisory’s commitment to being a menopause-friendly workplace, ensuring employees receive the support they need to stay engaged and thrive professionally.

The Menopause Friendly Accreditation, established by Henpicked: Menopause in the Workplace, recognises high standards and effective practices that support menopause in the workplace. It is a prestigious accreditation, widely considered a mark of excellence. To achieve it, employers must meet criteria in five key areas: culture, policies and practices, training, engagement, and working environment.

Socitm Advisory’s success in this area is attributed to the development of a bespoke Menopause Policy, along with initiatives like line manager training, educational workshops, and establishing menopause champions. With strong leadership support and colleague engagement, the organisation has created a gender- and age-inclusive environment, positioning itself as a leader in this important area.
